Why do reverse osmosis cleaning often put alkaline cleaning after pickling?

Aug 01, 2022

Each reverse osmosis system will be polluted and needs cleaning. Because there is usually not only one pollutant when pollution occurs, the typical cleaning process usually includes two steps: low pH cleaning and high pH cleaning.

Different pollutants should be cleaned with different cleaning agents. Alkaline cleaning is mainly used to remove microorganisms or organic pollutants, and acid cleaning is mainly used to remove scaling. The cleaning agent should be selected according to the type of pollutants and the type of membrane to avoid damaging the membrane.

The use sequence of cleaning agents should be determined according to the actual problems. The usual cleaning sequence is acid washing first, and then alkali washing.

In some cases, if the pollution is mainly organic matter or microorganisms, alkali washing can be carried out first, followed by acid washing, and then alkali washing.

The important reason for taking alkaline washing as the last step is that it can fully open the membrane pores after pickling, so as to restore the water production flow.
