Poor Water Quality? Several Athletes Fell To The Ground And Vomited After The Tokyo Olympics Triathlon

Jul 29, 2021

The Tokyo Olympic Games are in full swing. However, after the triathlon on July 26, some contestants fell to the ground and vomited.

Some Japanese netizens said that the water quality of the competition venue was “too bad”, while Japanese media claimed that the water quality of the competition venue was “no problem”, and Japanese media attributed the cause to “too hot”.

In fact, as early as four years ago, test results showed that the levels of E. coli and Enterococcus in the waters were severely exceeded. In the first half of this month, some American media revealed that the venue was still "stinky."

Some Japanese media reported that the athletes who fell on the ground had become "too hot" due to the "severe heat" in Tokyo, and the players were unable to adapt. However, some Japanese netizens said that they could not watch it anymore, and they all complained that the water quality of Tokyo Odaiba Seaside Park, the venue of the Tokyo Triathlon, was "problematic."

"The triathlon event was held near the sewage outlet of Tokyo Bay. After the game, the players vomited. Why are these not regarded as problems by the news?" However, the Japanese media said that the water quality of the competition venue was "no problem."

The Olympic Games is an important sporting event in the world. Tokyo, as the organizer, should be responsible for the health of athletes and ensure that the water source of the athletes’ competition venues is clean. They should use the pretreatment  of reverse osmosis system to purify the water to ensure the safety of athletes.
