[Epidemic] The Impact Of Lockdown And Control Is Getting More And More Serious! The Shipping Company Cancelled The Call At Shanghai Port, And Some Cargoes Were Transferred To Other Ports For Unloading!

Apr 15, 2022

Due to the continued severe epidemic, some voyages of Maersk, ONE and Yixing have begun to cancel the call at Shanghai Port, and provide multimodal transportation services such as "land to water" or railways to alleviate the current land transportation problems. It is expected that other shipping companies will follow suit.

Since the city-wide closure of Shanghai, land transportation has been restricted to a certain extent, which has affected customers' order changing and container pick-up operations. A large number of imported containers have been piled up at the terminal, resulting in tight storage space.

Shipping companies such as Maersk, Hapag-Lloyd, Mediterranean, CMA CGM, and ONE have successively announced that dangerous goods and reefer containers will be transferred to other ports for unloading.

Remind customers to change their destination.

Mediterranean Shipping:

Due to the impact of the epidemic restrictions, the Shanghai port is congested, resulting in insufficient supply of reefer container plugs or even no plugs available. MSC cannot unload reefer containers at designated ports in the event of no or unavailable power supply.

And customer goods may be time-sensitive, and delays in unloading may cause damage to the goods. If you wish to make a change of destination (COD), please contact MSC as soon as possible. In addition to the operating costs incurred, there will be a destination change fee.

If the change of destination is not notified within the next 7 days, MSC will have no choice, according to Clause 19 of the Ocean Bill of Lading and Waybill Clause: Refrigerated containers may be unloaded and stored at intermediate or alternative ports until they can be transferred to the designated The port of discharge; or, if the situation does not improve soon, it may be necessary to terminate the voyage and advise the customer where the container will be picked up.

In both cases, MSC reserves the right to charge the customer for additional freight and related charges incurred, including but not limited to additional transshipment, storage, demurrage and cold box plug charges. Once unloaded at an alternate port, MSC will charge a storage fee of $150/day (STO) from the 6th day after unloading until pickup or reshipment.

Over time, delays, port hopping, and congestion will be inevitable, and will have a certain impact on logistics. We need to predict in advance and make corresponding preparations.
